Who is raising the bar in your community?

“Every time I raise the bar, these kids rise to it.  I keep raising it and up they come.”

Cindy Crandall, Language Arts Teacher, Sutton’s Bay High School

All over Michigan, teachers, support staff, parent and students are working together – not just to meet expectations, but to exceed them.

While “those who can’t” are passing laws about teaching – and taking money away from our schools –  those who can are finding new ways to unlock the mysteries of math, science, reading and other subjects young people must master to succeed in the 21st century.

You can listen to “We Raise the Bar” radio ads, featuring the voices of real Michigan teachers.

…and if you’re tired of all the teacher-bashing, and interested in what really works in our schools, please join the conversation.

  • If you’re a teacher or support staff member, tell us about what’s working in your building, or about a colleague whose work you respect.
  • If you’re a student, tell us about a teacher who inspired you.
  • If you’re a parent, tell us about the extraordinary things your sons and daughters are doing in Michigan schools.

We’ll share your stories here – and keep you posted on the latest news about how we are raising the bar, all across Michigan.

Do you know a Real School Hero?

In Michigan, we’re not waiting for a comic-book hero to save the day in our schools.

We have REAL heroes working every day to ensure students get a great education.  From the classroom to the bus route to the bargaining table to the community, unionized teachers and education support professionals are making a difference.

Tell the story of your real school hero here – just leave a reply to this post that shares your story about public school employees going above and beyond the call of duty for their students!
